UH foes 2-3, WAC 2-1 in bowl games with one to play

Teams that played the University of Hawaii football team are 2-3 and the Western Athletic Conference is 2-1 in bowl games so far with one game to be played today.

WAC champion Boise State takes on Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Ariz. Boise State beat UH, 41-34, Sept. 23. After that loss, UH would win a school-record nine in a row before falling in its regular-season finale to Oregon State game Dec. 2. The Fiesta Bowl is scheduled to kickoff at 3:30 p.m. and will be televised on Fox (Channel 2, cable 3).

Yesterday, Nevada, which lost to UH 41-34 Oct. 7, lost to Miami of Florida, 21-20, in the MPC Computers Bowl in Boise.

Earlier, San Jose State and Oregon State won their bowl games while Alabama and Purdue lost theirs.

Nevada and San Jose State are WAC members, as is UH, which beat Arizona State, 41-24, in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl to finish 11-3.

San Jose State, which lost to UH 54-17 on Nov. 18, beat New Mexico, 20-12, in the New Mexico Bowl.

Oregon State, which ended UH's nine-game winning streak with a 35-32 win Dec. 2, beat Missouri, 39-38, in the Sun Bowl.

Alabama, which beat UH 25-17 in the Warriors' season-opener Sept. 2 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., lost 34-31 to Oklahoma State in the Independence Bowl.

Purdue, which lost to UH 42-35 on Nov. 25, fell to Maryland, 24-7, in the Champs Sports Bowl.
