Overall passenger arrivals up in 2006 from 2005

Advertiser Staff

A total of 8.45 million passengers traveled to Hawai'i last year, a 0.4 percent increase over 2005, according to state figures released today.

Arrivals from the Mainland rose to 6.61 million in 2006, a 2.3 percent increase over 2005. Overall international arrivals totaled 1.84 million last year, a 6.6 percent decline from the previous year.

DBEDT has yet to provide a breakdown of how many of the December arrivals were visitors and how many were returning residents. That information will be included in a report expected to be released later this month.

Visitor arrivals for the first 11 months of last year were slightly below 2005's record pace. Through November 6.75 million visitors traveled to Hawaii, 0.1 percent below the same period a year earlier.
