UH foes finished 3-3 in bowl games

Teams that played the University of Hawaii football team went 3-3 and the Western Athletic Conference 3-1 in bowl games this season.

WAC champion Boise State's wild 43-42 overtime victory over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl sealed a winning bowl record for WAC teams.

Earlier, UH beat Arizona State, 41-24, in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl and San Jose State beat New Mexico, 20-12, in the New Mexico Bowl.

The only WAC team to lose was Nevada, which fell 21-20 to Miami (Fla.) in the MPC Computers Bowl in Boise, Idaho.

Boise State was the only WAC team to defeat UH, holding on for a 41-34 victory Sept. 23 in Boise. UH, which finished the season 11-3, beat San Jose State, 54-17, and Nevada, 41-34.

UH's other opponents -- Alabama, Purdue and Oregon State -- went 1-2.

Oregon State, which ended UH's nine-game winning streak with a 35-32 win Dec. 2, beat Missouri, 39-38, in the Sun Bowl.

Alabama, which beat UH 25-17 in the Warriors' season-opener Sept. 2 in Tuscaloosa, Ala., lost 34-31 to Oklahoma State in the Independence Bowl.

Purdue, which lost to UH 42-35 on Nov. 25, fell to Maryland, 24-7, in the Champs Sports Bowl.
