High surf advisory remains in effect until 4 a.m.

A high surf advisory remains in effect until 4 a.m. for north-facing shores of Ni'ihau, Kaua'i, O'ahu, Maui and Molakai, the National Weather Service said.Surf along northern shores is expected to decrease to 8 to 12 feet by daybreak.
The rest of the surf forecast today calls for surf along west shores to diminish to 6 to 9 feet by sunrise, east-facing shores to see surf 4 to 7 feet and south-facing shores to see surf 2 feet or less.
The current west northwest swell will continue to decline through Saturday. A new northwest swell is expected over the weekend.
Strengthening trades winds over the next 24 hours will likely warrant a high surf advisory for the east facing shores by tonight. The advisory threshold for east facing shores is 8 feet. The large and rough surf generated by the strong trades is expected to last through the weekend.
