Ex-Warrior Chad Owens signs with Tampa Bay

By Stephen Tsai
Advertiser Staff Writer

Former University of Hawaii receiver/returner Chad Owens today signed a two-year contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Owens, who finished the past two seasons on the Jacksonville Jaguars' reserve squad, will earn $360,000 if he makes the 2007 roster. That's the National Football League minimum for a second-year player. He has earned credit for one year of NFL service.

He also received an undisclosed signing bonus.

"I'm definitely going to miss Jacksonville," Owens said. "I've made some friends in the organization. From a business standpoint, now I have to do what I have to do to get on the field."

Owens said he was told he will be used as a returner on kickoffs and punts, as well as a receiver.
