Honolulu playwright to have New York reading Jan. 29

"Inside Out," a comedy by Honolulu playwright Richard Tillotson, is one of nine finalists (out of more than 700 submissions) for the annual Christopher Brian Wolk Playwriting Award.

A one-night reading of the play will be held at 7 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Abingdon Theatre, 312 W. 36th St., in New York City.

"Inside Out" is a comedy about disease, hunger, over-population and homeless refugees in a university setting. The central characters are four doctoral candidates studying developing-world problems, who learn that three of their research grants must be cut. The result: Issues such as limited resources that once seemed academic and remote become intensely real and imminently personal.
