New Mexico State tops basketball 'Bows, 92-86

Justin Hawkins scored 18 points to lead New Mexico State to a 92-86 victory over Hawai'i in the Western Athletic Conference basketball opener for both teams Thursday at Las Cruces, N.M.

New Mexico State is 11-3, Hawai'i 9-5.

Matt Lojeski scored 22 to lead the Rainbow Warriors. Matt Gibson and Riley Luettgerodt each added 16 points.

Ahmet Gueye, Gibson and P.J. Owsley fouled out for UH, which committed 25 fouls to New Mexico State's 13.

The Rainbow Warriors led at halftime, 38-34.
