Seven Warriors to play in 61st Hula Bowl

Seven University of Hawai'i players and Boise State quarterback and Fiesta Bowl offensive MVP Jared Zabransky are scheduled to be teammates in the 61st Cornerstone Bancard Hula Bowl, Jan. 14, at Aloha Stadium.

"We're ecstatic," Hula Bowl Executive Director Joe Dan Rogers said. "When you start peeling through that roster, you'll see some pretty big football names in there."

The Hawai'i players will suit up for the Kai team. They are defensive back Leonard Peters, running backs Reagan Mauia and Nate Ilaoa, defensive ends Mel Purcell and Ikaika Alama-Francis, offensive tackle Dane Uperesa and wideout Ross Dickerson.

Zabransky will also play for the Kai team with Fiesta Bowl counterpart and Oklahoma starting quarterback Paul Thompson.

The game will also feature players from No. 1 Ohio State, No. 3 Michigan and No. 8 Southern California, as well as coaches Pat Hill (Fresno State), Mark Richt (Georgia), Rich Rodriguez (West Virginia), Art Briles (Houston) and Rubin Carter (Florida A&M).

Kickoff is 3:30 p.m. Parking and gates open at 1:30.
