Grammy nominees free concert part of First Friday

Nothing like ringing in the first weekend of the new year with some of the best Hawaiian music around.

And it's free.

From 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., the Live from the Lawn concert at the Hawai'i State Art Museum will feature Grammy Award nominees Ledward Ka'apana, Makana, Daniel Ho, George Kahumoku, Richard Ho'opi'i, Peter de Aquino, Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom and others.

The concert is part of First Friday, which kicks off its monthly downtown/Chinatown event from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today.

Several galleries, merchants, businesses open their doors for a variety of exhibits, events and activities from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. The event showcases Chinatown's rebirth and draws thousands of visitors on the first Friday of each month.
