Honolulu and Kahului rank high on travel survey

Honolulu and Kahului rank highly with travelers taking vacations this year placing within the top-10 travel agency bookings for U.S. destinations, according to a travel trends survey by Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associates.Honolulu trailed only Las Vegas and Orlando, Florida in terms of popularity and was trailed by Kahului, which placed fourth in the top-10 list, the travel agency company said.
Last year, a similar survey ranked Maui in the third spot and Honolulu in the fourth.
Kaua'i also was in the 2006 top 10, coming in at 8th.
For 2007, the Garden Island is No. 14, Carlson Wagonlit said in a news release.
The survey also found among International destinations, Caribbean cruises were top ranked and followed by Cancun and Riviera Maya in Mexico.
The travel agency also reported 82 percent of travel agents said bookings are equal or above last year and that a little more than eight out of 10 were either fairly optimistic or very optimistic about the year.
As for travelers, the agents about 65 percent of their clients are more confident traveling farther from home. That compared to less than half a year earlier.
The agents also reported more than half of their customers are spending more on vacations.
