Louisiana Tech holds off Rainbow Warriors, 70-67

Trey McDowell scored a game-high 24 points to lead Louisiana Tech past Hawai'i, 70-67, in a Western Athletic Conference basketball game Saturday at Ruston, La.

LaTech is 4-10 and 2-0 in the WAC. UH is 9-6 and 0-2.

Ahmet Gueye scored 11 of his team-high 18 in the second half for the Rainbow Warriors. Matt Lojeski added 16 points while Dominic Waters added 12 off the bench.

UH rallied from a late double-digit deficit in the second half and had a chance to send the game into overtime. But Waters' 3-point attempt in final seconds rimmed out.

Hawai'i committed 19 turnovers, while the Bulldogs had 7.

Chad McKenzie added 18 for Tech, which won its sixth straight over Hawai'i.

The Rainbow Warriors led 31-30 at halftime.

Hawai'i hosts Fresno State Thursday and Nevada next Saturday at the Stan Sheriff Center.
