Hau'ula 7-Eleven fire may have been arson

Advertiser Staff

The Honolulu Fire Department is investigating a two-alarm fire that occurred early this morning at the Hau'ula 7-Eleven Store at 54-132 Kamehameha Highway.

There were no injuries. Arson is suspected. Estimated damages were "at least $20,000," according to HFD spokesman Capt. Gary Lum.

Lum said some 30 firefighters fought the blaze. He said investigators are listing the fire as "incendiary," or "not accidental."

Lum said the alarm came at 12:24 a.m. and the first fire company arrived five minutes later. The fire was under control within half an hour, although firefighters remained at the scene for nearly two hours.
