Missing hiker rescued near Maunawili summit

A 21-year-old man who left 'Aina Haina yesterday for a hike to Windward O'ahu and did not return as scheduled was rescued today about 1,000 feet from the summit in Maunawili.Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Gary Lum said the man was not injured. His mother called the Fire Department to report him overdue at 12:50 p.m. today.
As firefighters were planning a search, the department's helicopter spotted the hiker. A fire rescue specialist was airlifted in and the man was taken out at 3:27 p.m., Lum said.
