Koke'e rainbow trout season to begin early

The annual rainbow trout fishing season at the Koke'e Public Fishing Area on Kaua'i will start about two months earlier this year to accommodate the state's new public school vacation schedule, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources announced.The fishing season will begin on June 16. Fishing will be allowed between 5:30 a.m. and 6:45 p.m. until July 1. After that, fishing will be allowed only on Saturdays, Sundays and state holidays until July 29, a DLNR news release said.
An estimated 8,000 stocked trout will be in the state's Pu'u Lua Reservoir.
Each should weigh at least a pound by opening day.
Anglers must have a valid state freshwater game fishing license, which can be obtained at DLNR, fishing supply stores and licensed agents, or purchased
