Kamehameha Highway reopens after flood closure

Kamehameha Highway near Sacred Falls was reopened to traffic at 11:30 p.m. yesterday after being closed for two hours due to flooding caused by a culvert opening blocked by sand.

The culvert located is located near Pokiwai Street. The highway was closed to traffic in both directions at about 9:30 p.m.

National Weather Service lead forecaster Maureen Ballard said the pump gauge at Punalu'u recorded 2.78 inches on rainfall from 7:30-9:30 p.m.

A flood advisory for windward areas north of Waikane was canceled at 10:15 p.m.

Eastern Kaua'i was also under a flood advisory yesterday for a couple of hours until 11 p.m.
