ASU coach beaten by UH gets job wtih NFL Jaguars

Associated Press

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Jaguars hired former Arizona State coach Dirk Koetter as their offensive coordinator Monday, giving them a third different play-caller in five seasons under coach Jack Del Rio.

Koetter replaces Carl Smith, who was one of five assistants fired last week after the Jaguars dropped three in a row to end the season, finished 8-8 and missed the playoffs for the sixth time in seven years.

Del Rio also hired Joe DeCamillis as special teams coordinator Monday. DeCamillis replaces Pete Rodriguez, whose units were partially to blame for three losses in 2006.

Koetter spent the last six years at Arizona State and was 40-34. He was fired after the Sun Devils finished 7-6 and lost 41-24 to Hawaii in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl. Prior to taking the Arizona State job, Koetter was head coach at Boise State for three seasons and went 26-10.
