Big project begins on Nimitz/Ala Moana

The state Department of Transportation on Monday begins a yearlong, $12.5 million project to repave Nimitz Highway/Ala Moana Boulevard from Fort Street to Pi'ikoi Street.

Project contractor Grace Pacific begins work on Monday evening, Jan. 8. Nearly all of the work will be done overnight between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Sunday nights through Friday mornings. No construction is planned for Friday or Saturday nights.

Initial work will involve digging trenches along Nimitz Highway/Ala Moana Boulevard to install new streetlights, starting near the Fort Street area. The contractor will then move eastward along Nimitz Highway/Ala Moana Boulevard. A single lane may be closed in each direction during the night work.

The entire project is scheduled for completion in January 2008, weather permitting. Up to 80,000 vehicles use Ala Moana Boulevard each day.

H-2 Freeway lane closures scheduled

Single median lanes will be closed on the H-2 Freeway between Meheula Parkway and the Waiawa Interchange for drainage inspections and maintenance on these days:

i Honolulu-bound direction, Jan. 9, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

i Wahiawa-bound direction, Jan. 11, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Farrington Nanakuli project continues

A right lane will be closed west-bound on Farrington Highway between Hakimo Road and Kaukama Road Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, for the installation of a chain-link fence.

Farrington project in Waipahu ongoing

Single lanes will be closed in both directions on Farrington Highway in Waipahu from Old Fort Weaver Road to Kamehameha Highway Monday through Friday for the installation of traffic loop detectors and pavement striping at these times:

i East-bound: 8:30 a.m. through 3 p.m., daily

i West-bound: 7:30 a.m. through 3 p.m., daily

Kamehameha work near Crouching Lion

Single lanes will be closed on Kamehameha Highway between Waiahole Valley Road and Crouching Lion Inn in both directions Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. through 3 p.m., for sign installation and guard-rail work. 

Traffic will be contra-flowed in the remaining open lane.

Lanes closed on Pu'uloa Road

A single south-bound lane will be closed on Pu'uloa Road near Kamehameha Highway, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, for electrical work. Shoulder lanes on both sides of Pu'uloa Road will also be closed during these hours for utility work.

'Aiea Access Road pavement work under way

Shoulder lanes will be closed in both directions on 'Aiea Access Road from Moanalua Road to Kamehameha Highway, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., for pavement striping.

Lanes to close near Camp Smith

Single lanes will be closed on Halawa Heights Road between Ulune Street and Fernridge Place in the vicinity of Camp Smith, Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, for pavement marker and sign installation.
