OCEANIC TIME WARNER CABLE INTRODUCES "START OVER"
AND "QUICK CLIPS": NEW INTERACTIVE ELEMENTS
Mililani, HI (January 8, 2007) - As part of its continuing effort to give
subscribers more personal control and flexibility with their TV viewing,
Oceanic Time Warner Cable has introduced two new interactive features for
digital cable subscribers. Start Over allows customers the ability to
instantly restart a program in progress, while Quick Clips allows customers
to easily access short-form video content, including content produced for
the Internet, on their televisions. The new services have been launched on
Oahu and Kauai, with additional channels to be added in phases throughout
the year.
"We're pleased to offer Hawaii the newest interactive technology," said
President Nate Smith. "With Start Over, viewers can see programs on 26
Oceanic Time Warner networks from the beginning when tuning the enabled
program in progress. With Quick Clips, viewers' growing desire for the most
up-to-date information when they want it is satisfied."
The Start Over interactive feature is free of charge to Oceanic's digital
subscribers. With just a touch of a button on their remote controls, they
can restart a wide range of programs: Boomerang, CNBC World, CNN, Cartoon
Network, Court TV, Do It Yourself, Food Network, Fox College Sports
Atlantic, Central, and Pacific, Fox Movie Channel, Fox Soccer Channel, FUEL,
G4-Gamers, Outdoor Life Network, Showtime/TMC multiplex channels, Sleuth,
Speed, Sundance, TBS, TNT and Turner Classic Movies.
When tuning to a Start Over-enabled show in progress, customers are alerted
to the feature through an on-screen prompt. By pressing "Select" on the
remote control, the program is immediately restarted, and customers are able
to watch it from the beginning. The feature eliminates the need for
advance planning, as is required with a digital video recorder. As long as
the program is in progress, viewers can start it over at their convenience.
Subject to network programming rights limitations, some programs within
these channels will not be enabled for Start Over and the prompt will not
appear.
Quick Clips brings video posted on the web to the television screens of
digital cable subscribers. The selected online video content comes from
programmers such as CNBC and CNN. When prompted by an on-screen notice that
the program currently viewed has "Enhanced Features," viewers simply press
their remote control's "Select" button to view the online video clip. Once
the Quick Clip is over, the viewer is returned to the current programming on
that channel.
For example, CNBC's Quick Clips include C.E.O interviews, analyst reports
and market and industry updates. CNBC provides five new quick clips each
day ranging from two to seven minutes in length. CNN's category offerings
on Quick Clips include the latest broadband content from CNN.com drawn from
specific categories: Top Stories, U.S., World, Politics, Law, Business,
Sci-Tech, Sports, Health, Offbeat, Entertainment and Best of TV. Once the
CNN category has been selected, viewers are able to choose from various
"quick" stories - usually from the top headlines of the day.
Oceanic currently delivers a diverse selection of entertainment and
information services by way of an advanced fiber optic/coax network to more
than 400,000 households, schools and businesses on Oahu, Maui, Kauai,
Molokai, Lanai and the Big Island. Among its products are Road Runner
high-speed Internet as well as Digital Phone services. The company has
provided quality cable service for Hawaii residents since 1969. Oceanic Time
Warner Cable is the thirteenth largest system in the U.S. and its parent
