Wai'anae Coast social services, parks share $2 million

Advertiser Staff

Mayor Mufi Hannemann today announced $2 million in benefits for the Wai'anae Coast community.

A total of $1 million in social service grants was awarded to 19 nonprofit organizations, with the largest grant totaling $100,000.

More than $1 million in parks improvements will include parking lot expansions at some parks in accordance with requests from community members, the mayor said. Other improvements will include a canoe halau and play apparatus.

Hannemann established the community benefits package last year to offset the impact of the city's Waimanalo Gulch landfill on the Leeward O'ahu community from Kapolei to Makaha.
