East O'ahu flood advisory expires

Advertiser Staff

A flood advisory for East O'ahu, specifically for the area between Waiahole and Kaaawa, expired at 3:15 a.m.

It had been put into effect by the National Weather Service's Honolulu office at 12:20 a.m. A flash-flood watch, however, remains in effect for all Hawaiian Islands through Wednesday afternoon.

Other weather-related updates:

  • A Kahuku police substation sergeant said this morning there had been reports of water pooling near the bridge at Pokiwai Place in Hau'ula, but there were apparently no evacuations, injuries or reports of serious structural damage.

  • Kamehameha Highway near Sacred Falls was reopened to traffic at 11:30 last night after being closed for two hours due to flooding caused by a culvert opening blocked by sand. The culvert is located near Pokiwai. The highway was closed to traffic in both directions at about 9:30 p.m.
