Rough weather prolongs delay for Hokule'a launch

Advertiser Staff

The departure for Hokule'a's historic trip to Micronesia and Japan remains stalled due to rough weather conditions locally.

Slated to leave last Friday, Polynesian Voyaging Society spokeswoman Kathy Thompson said the double-hulled canoe now won't leave O'ahu for Kawaihae until at least Thursday.

Hokule'a is rendezvousing on the Big Island with the newly constructed canoe Alingano Maisu, which is being presented to Micronesian navigator Mau Piailug at his home island of Satawal.
