MARTHA STEWART FEATURES MAUI GOLDŽ PINEAPPLE IN JANUARY
Magazine feature story and television program introduce
new pineapple recipes nationally
KAHULUI, MAUI---Maui Gold pineapple merited a ten-page feature story in the January 2007 edition of Martha Stewart Living magazine. Written by John Kernick, the article tells of pineapple's history and profiles Maui Pineapple Company's super-sweet Maui Gold variety. Eight new pineapple recipes are included in the story.
Response to the Martha Stewart Living article was so positive that Maui Gold was also selected to be featured on the nationally-broadcast Martha Stewart Show on Tuesday, January 9. Editorial director of food and entertaining at Martha Stewart Living, Lucinda Scala Quinn, taught viewers how to make "Angel Food Cake with Oven-Dried Pineapple" and everyone in the studio audience went home with their own Maui Gold.
The crew from Martha Stewart Living visited Maui earlier this year in search of new stories about foods from Hawai`i and one of their producers, Tony Bielaczyc, discovered the unique taste and aroma of Maui Gold pineapple on the trip. Maui Pineapple Company's quality assurance expert Taylor Kellerman gave the crew a lesson in fresh Hawaiian pineapple and Wes Nohara, VP of production management gave tours of the plantation, and the rest, they say, is history.
"With so many new and interesting recipes in the Martha Stewart Living article as well as good information, this national publicity can assist the entire pineapple category in increasing consumption," commented Howard Nager, VP Sales & Marketing for Maui Pineapple Company. "We are very excited to see Hawaiian pineapple featured in this magazine and on the television show because Martha's audience consists of food connoisseurs who appreciate the uniqueness of regional delicacies."
