The resident manager of an apartment building at 725 Pi'ikoi St. was taken to Kuakini Hospital today after suffering smoke inhalation from a fire.

The man, 58, is credited with containing a fire in the living room of Unit 206, said Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Kenison Tejada.

Firefighters responded to an 2:18 p.m. alarm and reported the fire under control at 2:33 p.m.

Emergency Medical Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic said the man was in serious but stable condition and suffered no burns.

Tejada said the fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damage.

About 24 people fled the building, according to Tejada. The cause of the fire was under investigation, Tejada said.
