Trade wind weather should return by tomorrow

Advertiser Staff

A low-pressure area to the west of Kauai continues to cause unsettled weather throughout the Island chain, according to the National Weather Service.

The low will produce enough instability for the possibility of heavy showers over Kauai and Oahu through today.

The low is also responsible for the wintry weather atop Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa on the Big Island.

Forecasters expect the low to lose its grip on island weather during the next 24 hours, with trade winds returning on Thursday.

That means a return to more traditional trade-wind weather — with showers primarily over windward areas and drier conditions over the lee sides of most islands — through the middle of next week.

Here's a more detailed look at the next several days:

Today, partly sunny with a 20 percent chance of showers. Locally heavy rainfall possible. Highs 78 to 84. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph.

Tonight, mostly cloudy with isolated showers. Lows 66 to 74. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Thursday, mostly sunny with isolated showers. Highs 78 to 83. East winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Thursday night, partly cloudy with isolated showers. Lows 63 to 71. Northeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.
