Highway safety plan summit set for today

Advertiser Staff

State transportation officials will meet with their counterparts from federal, county, private and other state agencies today to formally set in motion the development of a state strategic highway safety plan.

State officials are in the early stages of developing the plan, the goal of which is to ensure the safety anyone who uses public roadways in Hawaii.

A "kick-off summit meeting" on the plan is set to get under way at 10:30 this morning at the Honolulu Country Club.

Speakers at the meeting will include Lt. Gov. James "Duke" Aiona Jr. and representatives from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Federal Highway Administration.
