Man pulled from pool Jan. 2 dies

A man pulled from a pool at his home Jan. 2 died Monday at The Queen's Medical Center.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office identified the man as Chulhee Kim, 49, of Honolulu.

An autopsy determined the cause of death as hypoxic incephalopathy due to near-drowning.


WOMAN, 48, COULD FACE THEFT CHARGES

Theft charges were pending against a 48-year-old woman visitor from Japan who allegedly left a store at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center on Monday without paying for items in her possession.

A guard confronted the woman outside the store at 9:02 p.m. and held her for police. The items allegedly taken from the store are valued at $4,187, police said.

The woman was booked for investigation of second-degree theft.


ARREST MADE IN ALLEGED SEX ASSAULT

Police arrested a 57-year-old man Monday for questioning in a sex assault investigation involving a young boy.

The victim told police he was fondled in a restroom at a shopping center. The man arrested for third-degree sex assault at 2 p.m. Monday is employed by the shopping center.


GUNMEN FLEE KANE'OHE HOME

Police were investigating a burglary report by a Kane'ohe resident who said he was confronted in his home Monday night by two men with guns.

The intruders were ransacking the house when the resident returned home. The men fled with undisclosed items. No injuries were reported.


SEARCH IS ON FOR BIG ISLAND TEEN

Big Island police are searching for a 13-year-old girl reported missing from her Hilo home since Dec. 17.

Tatiana Cortes-Cortes is described as 5 feet 3 and about 125 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
