Chinese New Year celebrations set

Advertiser Staff

A variety of Chinese organizations and downtown folks will help the city make February a month-long celebration of Chinese New Year.

Mayor Mufi Hannemann today joined leaders of the Chinese Chamber of Commerce, Chinatown Merchants Association, United Chinese Coalition, United Chinese Society and The ARTS at Marks Garage to announce public-private partnerships that helped make possible a month of festivities to coincide with the start of the Year of the Boar.

Sponsors said the free public events run from the first weekend in February through the final weekend, when the city will help sponsor an outdoor movie weekend — Feb. 23 and 24 — at A'ala Park modeled after the popular Sunset on the Beach and community events.
