It's back-to-school time for Hawai'i public schools

Advertiser Staff

Under Hawaii's new single school calendar, all public school students have been enjoying a three-week winter break.

But classes will resume either today, Friday or Tuesday.

This school year only, schools had a choice to schedule a teacher work day without students on either Dec. 20 or Jan. 11.

At the nearly 35 schools that held their teacher work day on Dec. 20, students will return to class today.

Most schools scheduled their teacher work day for today, so students will return to school no sooner than Friday.

However, many of those schools with a teacher work day today also scheduled another teacher work day without students on Friday, which delays the return of students until Tuesday, Jan. 16, after Martin Luther King Day.

Parents and students who are uncertain about when classes resume should call their schools directly.
