Moanalua High School sophomore Tadd Fujikawa made history today in the Sony Open in Hawaii, shooting a 4-under-par 66 to become the second youngest player to make the cut in the PGA Tour event.

"I can't even breathe right now, I'm so excited," Fujikawa told The Golf Channel.

"Making the cut is an awesome thing for me. All the people supporting me ... (I wish) everybody could feel what I'm feeling right now."

Fujikawa's two-round total of 3-under 137 was two shots better than the cut line, which was even par.

The field will be cut to the top 70 players and ties after Friday's second round.

Fujikawa (16 years, 4 days) is the youngest player to make the PGA Tour cut in 50 years.

The youngest player to make a PGA Tour cut was Bob Panasik (15 years, 8 months) at the 1957 Canadian Open.

The previous 16-year-old to make the cut was Ty Tryon, who was 16 years, 9 months when he accomplished the feat at the 2001 Honda Classic.

Fujikawa put himself in position by shooting a 1-over-par 71 Thursday.

He punctuated his history-making round by a birdie on the 16th and an eagle on the 18th, sending the crowd into a frenzy.

"I'm really appreciative of everyone coming out here and supporting me," he told The Golf Channel.
