Peace Ribbon on display at Hawai'i State Library

Advertiser Staff

Code Pink's Peace Ribbon Project — a memorial to fallen soldiers and civilians in the war in Iraq — will be on display today and tomorrow in the lobby of downtown's Hawaii State Library.

The ribbon, which has been on display in various cities since March 2005, consists of "remembrance panels" for individuals who died in connection with the war.

Each homemade 2-foot by 3-foot panel includes the name, age, hometown and date of death of individuals, as well as personal touches, such as depictions of career aspirations and hobbies.

Code Pink is a women-initiated grassroots peace and social justice movement working to end the war in Iraq. Code Pink O'ahu will carry the Peace Ribbon in Monday's Martin Luther King Dr. Day parade in Waikiki. The parade begins at 9 a.m., traveling from Ala Moana Park's Magic Island to Kapi'olani Park.
