Roosevelt musicians need help

Advertiser Staff

After an anonymous parent donor offered to buy chairs and music stands for the Roosevelt High School Performing Arts Center now under renovation, the school's Music Boosters Organization launched a fundraising drive to help pay other costs.

"This parent is willing to pay up to as much as $20,000 for equipment that wasn't budgeted for, as a match for other donations," said band director Gregg Abe.

"She thought by starting this fundraising we may have people in the community who might be interested in helping, too."

Several businesses have already pledged money — some as much as $2,000 — said Abe, and the booster club hopes that others might also contribute. A letter will be drafted and sent to parents, he said.

The $10 million renovation of the performing arts center should be complete by September, Abe said. But the construction doesn't include chairs and music stands for the musicians and some percussion equipment.

Donations may be sent to the attention of band director Gregg Abe, at Roosevelt High School Music Boosters Organization, 1120 Nehoa St., Honolulu, HI 96822.
