Early registration for Honolulu Marathon set

The 2007 Honolulu Marathon is still 11 months away, but early registration will begin Jan. 20 through Jan. 28 at Niketown in Waikiki.

The cost will be $20 to register for the Dec. 9 race. Lu'au tickets will also be available, also at $20. People can buy up to six companion lu'au tickets, also at $20 each.

The hours of the registration are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., daily.

HONOLULU MARATHON EARLY REGISTRATION SET

A boxing event, highlighted by a bout between Ronnie Reams and Brandon Visher, will be Jan. 20 at Palolo District Park.

Reams, of Colorado Springs, Colo., is the 2006 Ringside Novice world champion and Visher (5-0) is from Wailuku, Maui. They will fight at 140 pounds.

There will be eight to 10 fights, starting at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children under 10.

Weigh-ins for competitors will be at noon, and all boxers must be registered with USA-Boxing.

100-MILE ENDURANCE RUN BEGINS TOMORROW

Approximately 100 runners will set out at 6 a.m. today from the Hawai'i Nature Center in Makiki as part of the Hawaiian Ultra Running Team 100-Mile Trail Endurance event.

Last year's winner, Karl Metzler, of Utah, will be in the field.

Runners have 36 hours to break the 100-mile barrier. The course goes over trails, and there is 24,000 feet of vertical gain.

The race will officially end at 6 p.m. Sunday.
