Surf advisory in effect for north, west shores

Advertiser Staff

A high-surf advisory, issued by the National Weather Service, remains in effect for north- and west-facing shores.

Surf today along north-facing shores will be running 15 to 17 feet, with occasional sets up to 22 feet, according to the weather service. Surf along west-facing shores will be 8 to 12 feet, with occasional sets to 15 feet.

Surf along east-facing shores will be 3 to 5 feet today, while surf along south-facing shores will be 2 to 4 feet through today.

The current west-northwest swell will gradually subside tomorrow night and Monday. A new northwest swell arriving Wednesday may cause waves to approach the high-surf threshold along north-facing shores Wednesday night and Thursday. Elsewhere, the current small south swell is expected to linger through Monday.

The trade-wind swell along east-facing shores will slowly subside this weekend but likely will increase again by early next week.
