Advertiser Staff

Ramon Sessions, whose late basket forced overtime, hit a driving layup with 28 seconds left, lifting nationally ranked Nevada over the University of Hawai'i, 68-66, today at Stan Sheriff Center.

Nevada, ranked No. 19 by The Associated Press and No. 15 by the ESPN/USA Today poll, played without its injured top player, Nick Fazekas, a national player of the year candidate.

Nevada is 16-1 overall and 4-0 in the Western Athletic Conference. UH is 10-7 and 1-3.

With about 1:37 left and UH leading 66-64, David Ellis hit both ends of a one-and-one free-throw opportunity to tie it at 66.

Matt Lojeski missed a tough fadeaway shot with 45 seconds left. Sessions then drove past Dominic Waters for a layup for a 68-66 lead.

Hawai'i had a shot attempt miss, and the ball went out of bounds with five seconds left. An inbounds pass then was turned over with two seconds left.

Sessions' driving layup tied it at 61 with 18 seconds left in regulation. Hawai'i could not get a shot off as Lojeski was stripped of the ball going up for a shot in the closing seconds.

In the last 1:35, UH went 2-for-4 from the free-throw line, with Bobby Nash and Dominic Waters both hitting just 1-for-2.
