Tiny tsunami waves roll through harbors here

Very small sea-level changes were recorded in Hawai'i early this morning as a result of a tsunami generated by an 8.2 magnitude earthquake northeast of Japan that occurred about 6:30 p.m. yesterday Hawai'i time.

According to the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, the tsunami wave activity was measured at about 4.6 inches at Hilo Harbor on the Big Island; 5.46 inches at Kahului Harbor on Maui; and 3.51 inches at Nawiliwili Harbor on Kaua'i. The wave showed up at the harbors between 1:08 and 1:48 a.m.

No reports of damage from the mini tsunami have been reported at this point.
