UC Irvine tops UH in men's volleyball

The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team got swept of the second night in a row, losing to host UC Irvine, 30-20, 30-22, 30-27, last night at Irvine, Calif.

The match lasted 1 hour and 25 minutes with UCI fans chanting, "warm up the bus" in the final moments of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match.

UC Irvine's Matt Webber, a left-hander with a Mohawk, finished with 15 kills. Jayson Jablonsky added 12 kills and three aces.

The No. 1 Anteaters (6-0, 2-0) hit .306 in the first game and .484 in the second.

"We got off to a really nice start, we played some really smooth volleyball and ball-controlled so well tonight," said UC Irvine coach John Speraw.

Jim Clar, who started for the Warriors (0-2, 0-2) in place of Steven Grgas, had 11 kills. Lauri Hakala and Matt Vanzant posted 10 kills apiece.
