Martin Luther King Day parade Monday from Magic Island

Monday is a holiday for many, but more than that, it's a time to reflect on the life of civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr.

The day's events include:

  • The annual parade begins at 9 a.m. from Magic Island to Ala Moana to Kalakaua Avenue, to Monsarrat, ending at Kapi'olani Park. It features marchers, vehicles, floats and band. A unity rally is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the park.

  • The Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration, presented by Church of the Crossroads, 7 p.m. on the church grounds at 1212 University Ave. Elizabeth R. Kent, director of the state Judiciary's Center for Alternative Dispute Resolution, will be given the annual Peacemaker award. Reception to follow.
