Search resumed for missing diver off Big Island

Advertiser Staff

The Coast Guard and Hawai'i County Fire Department rescuers resumed their search at first light this morning for a missing diver at Kahena Beach off the southwest corner of the Big Island.

HCFD relayed a request for assistance to search for the missing diver at 7:30 last night. An HH-65 Dolphin helicopter and crew, from Barbers Point, searched an area approximately 15 square miles along the coast and offshore. HCFD crews are searching the shoreline and in-shore areas.

The 25-year-old male diver was reported missing to HCFD by his diving partner.

Coast Guard crews planned to launch the Coast Guard Cutter Kiska, homeported in Hilo, at first light.
