81-year-old woman hit by van, dies

Advertiser Staff

An 81-year-old woman who was struck by a van as she crossed North King Street this morning has died, the fourth pedestrian killed so far this year.

The woman was hit by a white 2006 Ford van as she crossed North King Street at 11:30 a.m. The van had the green light, police said, and the woman was in a marked crosswalk.

Her name has not been released.

She was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition from the intersection of North King and North Beretania streets, according to the city Emergency Medical Services division.

She was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

A 28-year old man who was driving the van was not injured, police said, and speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
