St. Francis sold; new name is Hawaii Medical Center

Advertiser Staff

The new owner of the St. Francis Healthcare Systems is planning upgrades for its two hospitals as well as name changes.

The money-losing health care system was sold to Hawaii Medical Center LLC, a company made up of physicians and Wichita, Kansas-based Cardiovascular Hospitals of America LLC in a transaction that closed Sunday. The new owners are renaming St. Francis' 240-bed Liliha facility Hawaii Medical Center East and its 102-bed 'Ewa facility as Hawaii Medical Center West.

The new owners said the medical centers are the first physician-owned and for-profit hospitals in the state.

Hawaii Medical Center said it plans to upgrade staffing and equipment at the hospitals while renovating both during the next five years.
