Pedestrian safety exhibit opens on State Capitol lawn

Advertiser Staff

A pedestrian safety exhibit will be on display on the lawn at the State Capitol building today starting at 10 a.m.

The large display will feature 156 pairs of large-scale "slippers" in a multitude of colors, shapes and sizes. Each pair will represent a pedestrian fatality between 2001 to 2005.

In the first 15 days of 2007 there have been four pedestrian deaths, the latest being Monday when an 81-year-old woman died after being struck by a van as she crossed North King Street in Iwilei.
