After false start, Brennan makes call today — maybe

After a one-day delay, quarterback Colt Brennan today is prepared to announce if he will apply for the 2007 National Football League draft or return to the University of Hawai'i for his senior season.
Maybe.
"I think I'll have all of the information I need to make a decision" before today's 2 p.m. news conference, Brennan said. "I may end up postponing it one more day. If something presents itself where I need more time, I'll take more time."
Brennan notified the NFL of an intention to apply yesterday — the declaration deadline for college underclassmen — as a way to keep open his options. The NFL allows an applicant 72 hours to rescind.
"I still haven't decided," said Brennan, whose father sent the notarized application to the NFL yesterday morning. "No, not at all. For me, it's completely win-win. I'll have the time of my life whether I go or whether I stay. No doubt."
Brennan said he needed to receive certain "information" before making a decision. He declined to reveal the "information," saying it was "too personal and too private right now."
But he said it had nothing to do with quarterback Brian Brohm, who yesterday announced he would return to Louisville for his senior season. Brennan has been told he would rank behind JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn in the draft on April 28-29.
"If I do decide to leave, (Brohm's decision) helps, and it will benefit me, but it's nowhere near the deciding thing," Brennan said. "That was just the convenient thing that happened. If Brohm decided to go, I would have still done exactly what I did."
He also said he plans to earn a bachelor's degree in either scenario. If he stays, he is on track to graduate in December.
"You can graduate at any point in your life," Brennan said. "The chance to play in the NFL ... that's not always going to present itself. That's not always going to be there. That's why it's important to realize school will always be there, but an opportunity like this always won't."
Still, he said he enjoys the college life.
"I truly believe we'll have a great football team next year, whether I stay or go," he said. "Next year, instead of waiting for week 8 or 9, people will be watching us in game 1. ... I love playing out here. It would be a great way to end my career. There are positives for both. That's why this decision is so hard."
