Second kidnap victim released unharmed, car found

Advertiser Staff

The second victim in a kidnapping case that had police tracking the alleged abductors via cell phone signal for more than eight hours yesterday called police early this morning to say he was released unharmed.

The 20-year-old male was picked up around 12:30 a.m. in Kaimuki near 7th and Harding. Police said he was waiting by the stolen vehicle when they arrived.

Police said they are continuing to investigate the case, which they said yesterday may be drug-related. The alleged kidnappers were traced from East Honolulu to Central O'ahu via the abductee's cell phone signal.

The incident started around 4:30 p.m. in Kahala when a woman and man in a 1990 silver Lexus LS 400 pulled into a driveway on Alakoa Street.

Two men drove up in a maroon or red car, confronted the occupants of the Lexus and demanded money. One of the men had a 9 mm pistol, police said. After taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the woman, the suspects ordered her out of the car and drove off with the male passenger and another man who had come out of the house.

The carjackers drove off in the Lexus toward Kahala Mall. One of the abductees was released unharmed 30 to 40 minutes later at Kahala Elementary School, police said.

The suspects had not been located as of 4:30 a.m.
