Morning maintenance work to close Tantalus park

Advertiser Staff

The Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of State Parks will delay opening Pu'u 'Ualaka'a State Wayside on Tantalus tomorrow while maintenance on a radio tower in the park is completed.

"For public safety reasons, we will open Pu'u 'Ualaka'a at 10 a.m. tomorrow instead of at the normal opening time of 7:45 a.m.," said Peter Young, DLNR chairman.

Pu'u 'Ualaka'a, which means "rolling sweet potato hill," is at Tantalus in a 50-acre forested area. It can be accessed via Tantalus Drive (sections of Round Top Drive are temporarily closed for road repair).

A scenic lookout provides a sweeping view of Manoa valley and south O'ahu from Diamond Head to Pearl Harbor, including Honolulu and Manoa Valley.

The 'Ualaka'a Loop Trailhead (1-mile loop) begins in the park.
