Gunmen in Kahala steal Lexus, abduct passenger

By Rod Ohira
Advertiser Staff Writer

Police last night were conducting a manhunt for two armed men who carjacked a Lexus in Kahala and kidnapped one of the passengers inside.

Police suspect the kidnapping and robbery may be drug-related.

The kidnapping took place about 4:30 p.m. shortly after a woman and man in a 1990 silver Lexus LS 400 pulled into a driveway on Alakoa Street, police said.

Two men drove up in a maroon or red car, confronted the occupants of the Lexus and demanded money. One of the men had a 9 mm pistol, police said. After taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the woman, the suspects ordered her out of the car and drove off with the male passenger and another man who had come out of the house.

The carjackers drove off in the Lexus toward Kahala Mall. One of the abductees was released unharmed 30 to 40 minutes later at Kahala Elementary School, police said.

Police said the victim who is still with the kidnappers is 20 years old.

The license plate of the Lexus is GXJ 901. The car, victim and kidnappers were still being sought at 11 last night.

Police were tracking the victim's position using his cell phone signal, and his last known location as of 10:30 p.m. was in Pearl City.
