Fans eager to learn the future plans of University of Hawai'i junior quarterback Colt Brennan were put on hold again yesterday, but the wait is expected to end today.
Brennan, the NCAA single-season record-holder in touchdown passes and passing efficiency, was scheduled to announce on Monday whether he would stay in school for his senior year or enter the NFL draft.
He postponed his announcement to yesterday, then postponed it again until today at 3 p.m.
"Because this is such an important decision that will have a big impact on what happens in my life, I want to take the maximum amount of time that is allowed to make my decision," Brennan said in a statement.
"I'm sorry for the inconvenience this may be causing. I don't mean to keep people waiting in anticipation, but I just want to make the best and most informed decision possible."
Brennan filed his papers to enter the NFL draft, but the NFL allows 72 hours to rescind the decision.
Also yesterday, another college quarterback to declare early for the NFL draft, Louisiana State's JaMarcus Russell, was selected as this year's recipient of the Manning Award, it was announced by the Sugar Bowl Committee and the Manning family.
The Manning Award, given to the nation's best quarterback, is the only quarterback award that takes into consideration bowl performance. Russell passed for 332 yards and two touchdowns in LSU's 41-14 win over Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl.
Brennan was a finalist, along with Erik Ainge of Tennessee, John David Booty of Southern California, Brian Brohm of Louisville, Chad Henne of Michigan, Chris Leak of Florida, Nate Longshore of California, Brady Quinn of Notre Dame, Troy Smith of Ohio State and Patrick White of West Virginia.
