Electrical power restored after two blackouts

Advertiser Staff

Two separate electrical shutdowns left some residents of Nanakuli and Waikiki without power early this morning.

About 100 customers at the Waikiki Shores condominium were without power from about midnight to 3 a.m. during a scheduled shutdown.

"The residents there were told about the outage ahead of time," said Hawaiian Electric Co. spokesman Jose Dizon. "It was a scheduled outage to perform some maintenance work."

Meanwhile, about 30 HECO customers in Nanakuli were blacked out from about 1 a.m. to 2:30 a.m. because of a problem with an underground cable, Dizon said.
