Idaho upsets Rainbow Warriors, 76-75

MOSCOW, Idaho — Mitchell Johnson hit a 3-pointer with 0.9 seconds remaining to give Idaho a 76-75 victory over Hawai'i in a Western Athletic Conference basketball game Thursday night at the Cowan Spectrum.

Hawai'i is 10-8 overall and 1-4 in the WAC. Idaho is 3-14 and 1-4.

UH head coach Riley Wallace said: "That was a tough one to take. We let one get away here."

UH lead a 40-35 at halftime and built a 53-46 lead before Idaho rallied to tie the score at 67 with 2:08 remaining.

Ahmet Gueye made the first of two free-throw attempts to give UH a 68-67 lead, but Idaho's Keoni Watson made the first of two free-throw attempts to tie it at 68.

Gueye's layup gave UH a 70-68 lead with 53 seconds to go.

Darin Nagle's shot for Idaho was blocked and Matt Lojeski rebounded. Gueye was fouled with 22 seconds to go and made both free throws to make it 72-68.

Watson was fouled on the ensuing possession and made both free throws to close it to 72-70 with 18 seconds remaining.

Lojeski was fouled with 17 seconds remaining and made the first of two free throws to make it 73-70.

Watson hit a 3-pointer with 11 seconds to go to tie it at 73.

Dominic Waters was fouled with 8 seconds to go and made both free throws to give UH a 75-73 lead.

After Johnson's shot, Gueye's prayer at the buzzer fell short.

Waters led UH with 18 points, Lojeski added 17.

UH plays at Boise State on Saturday.
