Officials identify pedestrian killed in 'Aiea

The Honolulu Medical Examiner's Office identified the woman pedestrian killed today as Alice Kondo, 78, of 'Aiea.

Kondo was standing on the sidewalk at 7:53 a.m. when she was struck by a 1993 Lexus that veered off Koauka Street to avoid hitting another car that cut in front of it. She was pronounced dead at Kapi'olani Medical Center at Pali Momi at 8:49 a.m.

Police vehicular homicide investigator Sgt. Alan Vegas said the driver of the Lexus, a 44-year-old 'Aiea man, was not injured. The Lexus struck the curbing, a no-parking sign pole and newspaper vending machine and Kondo.

The woman is the fifth pedestrian killed on O'ahu this year and the second person who was not crossing a street when struck by a vehicle.
