LIFE'S A BEACH: The Jan. 22 issue of People magazine showcases a trio of Hollywood Bodies Beautiful in the Islands: Keira Knightley ("Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest") dons a striped bikini and stands in foamy seas with her actor-beau Rupert Friend ("Pride and Prejudice," "The Libertine"); Orlando Bloom (also of "Pirates") garners a two-photo spread, in which he shows his pecs (as well as tummy tattoo) in one photo, and is surfing in the other; and Ashlee Simpson, also bikini-clad, enjoys time at the beach. The visitors were here in earlier this month. ...

Simpson was just one of a string of notables staying at The Kahala resort, which has been a paradise for stargazers with house guests such as producer-director Garry Marshall ("Happy Days," "Pretty Woman," "Runaway Bride," "Beaches"), actor William Shatner ("Star Trek," "Boston Legal"), actor Adam Sandler ("The Wedding Singer," "Click," "50 First Dates") actor Kevin James ("The King of Queens"), actress Kate Beckinsale ("Pearl Harbor," "Click," "The Aviator") and singer Julio Iglesias ("To All the Girls I've Loved Before"). ...

WHEE, THE PEOPLE: Actor Sean Jones, who turned 16 yesterday, recently returned from a hectic New York City visit with family. Besides seeing the ball drop New Year's Eve at Times Square, Sean took in a round of shows, including "The Lion King," "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee," "Mary Poppins," "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Phantom of the Opera." And he met up with a contingent of theater types with Honolulu roots or ties, such as performers Greg Zane, Randal Ask, David Spangenthal, Melanie Tojio and her husband, Peter Lockyer, who is appearing in "Phantom." The trip also was a college-scouting mission. Sean's dad, musician Stephen Jones, caught Michael Feinstein at Feinstein's at the Regency, where Liza Minnelli sat three tables away. The elder Jones has been working with the Matt Catingub Orchestra of Hawai'i's "Return to Romance" series in March; a TV special is in the works, set for a Valentine's screening on KGMB 9. ...

Grammy nominee Amy Hanaiali'i Gilliom stopped in to see bassist Bruce Hamada and pianist Jim Howard at Lewers Lounge in the Halekulani hotel Friday night, and showed off her jazz chops on a couple of tunes. While mommy sang, daughter Madeline was nearby, watching and listening and lulling into blissful sleep. She's prepping for her aforementioned "Return to Romance" performances with the Catingub ork March 1 to 11. ...
